Oh Honey! Cookie Decorating Class

May 11 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Cookie Decorating Class held by Erika – A Pretty Smart Cookie
“Hive” been a busy bee comin’ up with a fun new class – Come join me in Madison, WI for this honey-themed sugar cookie decorating class!
Interested in learning more about decorated sugar cookies?! A Pretty Smart Cookie is here to help! In this 2-hour class, we’ll cover the basics of sugar cookies (so – yes, it’s beginner friendly!), do some piping practice with Royal Icing, talk about how to strategize the best ways to decorate sugar cookies, and cover the general concepts around dough and icing! Everything you’ll need is provided in class along with a live in-person instructor – just bring a smile (and maybe an apron).
This month will be super sweet – “bear-y” cute designs featuring bees, honey, bears, hives, and flowers – just in time for spring and summer!
You’ll leave class with a great understanding of the basics of sugar cookies plus a few cool techniques we’ll cover in class! More details on refunds, things to bring, credits, and FAQs are below – looking forward to having you with us.
I provide everything you will need from cookies, icing, sprinkles, and a box to take your awesome creations home in – I just need YOU! Each to-be-baker gets 6 cookies, 4 icing colors, sprinkles, and all the tools necessary to knock this cookie class out of the park! Everything is prepped right before class – so no baking or icing mixing required. Just decorate!
This class is for the beginner cookier or for the person who is just curious about what cookie decorating is all about! If you have limited experience with sugar cookies, found yourself frustrated with royal icing, or if you’re trying to have fun with family or friends, this is the class for you! We will be doing a fun “Oh Honey” theme set that tastes amazing and will look even better once you’ve completed your decorating!
This class is on Saturday, May 11th from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. We will start right on time so we can have enough time to decorate and answer questions along the way. Come by yourself, bring your best friend, or bring the family – we have seating for up to 16 people! It’s a blast whether you’re coming with a friend, family member, or solo!
This class is for ages 16 and up. It’s a time for the adults to enjoy themselves. BUT the techniques we learn are great for kids. Come learn how to decorate the cookies and purchase an add-on kit to take home and make the cookies with your family (more on that below)! The kits are great for kids at home, plus – I’ll send you the class PowerPoint so you can teach them yourself!
The class will be held at Doundrins Distilling in Cottage Grove, WI located at 300 Progress Drive, Suite F. Nervous about the parking situation? Don’t be! Parking is pretty easy – there is plenty of space in the parking lot. And the best part about having class at a distillery is that your ticket includes 1 drink!
Things to Bring
Wondering what you need to bring to have a successful time decorating? Well – nothing’s required – but here’s the things we recommend if you’d like to elevate your experience!
– Bring an apron! Things can get messy when you’re workin’ with royal icing – so grab an apron (bonus points if it’s cute – I’ll definitely be asking where you got it).
– Bring your glasses! Cookie decorating is pretty deatiled, so if things get blurry close up, glasses may be a great help.
– Bring your phone! I love it when students take pictures and videos throughout class – so bring a phone!
– Bring a mask if you’d like! These classes follow the state health guidelines, but if you’d like to wear a mask throughout class – please do! No one will look at you funny.
– Bring a good attitude! Cookies are fun, but they’re also challenging! A good attitude makes all the difference.
About Erika and A Pretty Smart Cookie
Who doesn’t love getting out and doing something fun while also eating delicious cookies!? That’s what A Pretty Smart Cookie is all about!
These classes are based in Madison, WI and cater to the beginner cookier or people just looking to have fun learning a new skill. Whether you just want a fun date, a girls-or-guys-night-out or just want to explore what cookie decorating is on your own – I have a seat for you.
For my classes, all you will need to bring is yourself (and an apron if you are a messy decorator), and I’ll take care of the rest. Oh – and bring eyeglasses so you can see the close-up details or the instructional PowerPoint if your eyesight is anything like mine. You will get a set of pre-baked cookies (pretty tasty if I do say so myself) as well as all the supplies you will need to decorate them during the 1.5 hour class. You will leave the class with your very own box of your very own newly decorated cookies!
A little about me – I started cake and cookie decorating in college in 2002 but I’ve been baking for as long as I can remember. I taught cake decorating classes for many years and had a specialty cake business in Atlanta. Eventually, work and graduate school crowded out baking in my life but I really missed it! In 2019, I decided to return to decorating but to focus on cookies. It got me through the pandemic with my sanity (almost) in tact! I have not put down a scribe since (don’t know what a scribe is? I’ll teach you in class!). I don’t know that I have a favorite theme to decorate. I just love being creative! There is little more satisfying than the look on a client’s face when I’ve exceeded their expectations for a gift or an event. I love what I do –who wouldn’t love making cookies?! It’s the sweetest job in the world!
Oh yeah – I have classes throughout the year which highlight different themes so make sure to sign up for our newsletter so you can get in on the cookie action!

Add a Sugar Cookie Class Add-On Kit to your Order!
Order your sugar cookie class kit and take the class home with you to teach a child or friend! Our class kits come with everything you’ll use in class and we’ll email you the class PowerPoint so you can follow our step-by-step instructions from home! Sugar Cookie Kits are created before your class and you’ll pick them up and take them with you after class.
How long can a kit last? Depending on how you store your icing, your kits can last for a week or longer. Freezing cookies keep them fresh for a long time, but we recommend using your kit as soon as possible – ideally in the first week after you’ve taken it home.
